Mother Would Rather - VUA and MFD

Wotcha you lot.

Well now! A bunch of things have happened since the last posting, but I’ll ration them out over a few new posts.

The most exciting thing happened during FAWM (February Album Writing Month) this year, for which I was enlisted by the venerable John LaSala, chief architect behind the loose collection of creative minds named The Very Us Artists, to take part in the making of a rather special album.

A ragtag bunch of us teamed up with the mighty talented illustrator, Ross Horsley, who runs My First Dictionary, the marvellously callous online children’s dictionary. Our task was to provide accompanying songs to an array of new dicionary entries Ross had cooked up.

The songs are being uncovered one-by-one on the My First Dictionary blog, so do follow…

Cheers,

Where have we been?

Well, we’ve been doing FAWM. “What’s that?”, I don’t hear you cry. Tough shit, sit down and listen. It stand for February Album Writing Month. More? It’s a community of songwriters from all over the feckin’ globe that meet once a year, and attempt to write 14 songs within the 28 measly days that is February. This is Johnny’s second go, and my fourth, so some interesting bullshit should come out of this. Here’s where it is:

FAWM

And above is one of the tracks I’ve done so far. It has big guitars, and will punch you in the face.

Bye!

A snippet of a new song from the forthcoming album, bookended by rambling shit. Nice.

BOADICEA VIDEO

Considering how long this has taken to get out the door, I’m now thinking about how I can keep the momentum going and release things more quickly. Might do a live gig over a video streaming service, maybe a run of EPs over a month or so, perhaps finish off the album quick-smart. No more year-long EPs, oh no.

Watch this space. Or the Twitter feed. Cough.

Of videos and verisimilitude

I’m considering doing a live video version of ‘Guess What’. It’s evolved a bit since that drunken evening I sat amongst the detritus of my room and bawled the recorded version out in a single, ramshackle take. We’ll have to see.

Download ‘Boadicea’

Video for the song ‘Boadicea’, taken from the recent ‘Goodbye To All That, Hello To All This!’ EP.

Once more thing - yes, the chord progression and melody for the middle-8 is mostly lifted from Bob Dylan’s ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright’, as a tribute to one of the greatest break-up songs all time (to which, this song doesn’t compare, I know).

Cheers,
